The more I dive into lifestyle family photography, the more I realize that most people aren’t sure what lifestyle photography is. Lifestyle photography is a type of photography that focuses on capturing images of people in real-life situations and settings. It’s more than the typical “smile and look at the camera!” or traditional family portrait.
It is a way to capture the beauty and uniqueness of everyday life in a way that tells a story.
Lifestyle family photography focuses on capturing people in their natural environment,
such as at home, in their place of work, or doing activities they enjoy. Lifestyle photography also emphasizes capturing moments that are meaningful and relatable to people, such as moments of connection, joy, and laughter.
Lifestyle family sessions are fantastic for kiddos to be themselves.
Because we are doing the session in their space rather than going to a new, unfamiliar space, they are freer to be their authentic selves which is what every parent wants. Don’t let having a small space or a “not perfect” yard hold you back from doing a lifestyle session.
For these sessions, we did a series in a small corner of their home where the light was the best. We started with an in-home maternity session in their Oregon home and then did an in-home newborn session once their little one arrived. It just shows that you don’t have to have ample space or even multiple spaces.
When it comes to getting your home ready for lifestyle photography, a few tips can ensure you get the most out of the experience. Although you don’t need a vast space, a few things will ensure you’ll fall head over heels for your photos when the gallery lands in your inbox.
- Declutter your space as much as possible. This will help keep the focus on the lifestyle elements you want to emphasize.
- Add meaningful props to you, such as artwork, plants, and books, to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
- We’ll incorporate natural light wherever possible to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The best time of day to shoot is when the light will be streaming into your home.
- Clean up any messes or clutter before the shoot to ensure that your home looks its best.
With these tips in mind, you’re sure to get beautiful photos that capture the essence of your lifestyle. Now that you know what lifestyle photography is, let’s chat and book a session for you.
