Owen & Emily’s Spring Wedding | Eugene Wedding Photographer

Owen and Emily’s spring wedding was filled with meaningful family details, beautiful florals, and plenty of genuine moments. From their indoor ceremony to their sunset portraits, their day was a great example of how a wedding can feel personal while still being classic and timeless.

As a Eugene wedding photographer, I love documenting weddings that reflect the couple and the people closest to them. Owen and Emily incorporated thoughtful details throughout their celebration, and it was such a pleasure to photograph this chapter of their story.

A Love Story That Started in Middle School

Owen and Emily first met in eighth grade after Owen moved to Sweet Home, Oregon. They shared the same group of friends throughout high school and had crushes on each other over the years, but they didn’t officially start dating until after graduation.

“This year marks 10 years since we first met, and looking back, it really feels like we were just waiting for the right time,” Emily shared.

A few years into their relationship, while they were navigating long distance, Emily traveled from Texas to visit Owen. She had planned a photo session for the two of them, not knowing Owen had a surprise of his own.

At the end of their session, Owen proposed. He had also arranged a dinner with both of their families afterward so everyone could celebrate together.

Years later, they gathered with their family and friends to celebrate their wedding.

A Spring Wedding in the Willamette Valley

Owen and Emily wanted a wedding setting that reflected their personalities and the places they grew up loving. They chose Paradise Springs for its natural surroundings, beautiful trees, and quiet rural setting.

Having an indoor ceremony space was also important to them, especially with Oregon’s unpredictable spring weather.

“We loved that the ceremony was indoors because Oregon weather can be unpredictable, but what really made us fall in love with it was the natural beauty,” Emily shared.

The greenery and wooded surroundings worked beautifully with their spring color palette of blush pink and green. Flowers were incorporated throughout the celebration, bringing a little color into the natural setting without taking away from it.

Classic Wedding Attire and Meaningful Details

Owen and Emily chose a timeless look for their wedding day, incorporating classic attire and a few meaningful family heirlooms.

Emily wore a wedding gown by Essense of Australia that she discovered while visiting San Diego for a friend’s wedding. Her veils were made by Katherine at The Fitting Parlor in Lebanon, Oregon.

She also wore family heirloom pearls and her grandmother’s garter. Her grandparents had recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, which made those details especially meaningful.

Owen wore a classic black suit with a rose in his boutonnière, a subtle nod to Emily’s middle name, Rose.

I always love when couples incorporate personal details into their wedding attire. They may seem small, but they’re often some of the most meaningful things to photograph.

Family Traditions and Personal Wedding Details

One of my favorite things about Owen and Emily’s wedding was how they included their families throughout the celebration.

Their cake table featured wedding photographs of both sets of parents, who are still happily married. It was a simple and meaningful way to honor the examples of marriage they grew up with.

They also included an airplane cake topper to represent their shared connection to aviation. Emily previously worked as a flight attendant, and Owen is a pilot.

Another special moment happened during the reception when Owen’s family began tapping their spoons against their glasses, encouraging the newlyweds to kiss.

It was a tradition Owen’s late grandfather had always started at family weddings. Having that tradition continue was a meaningful way to remember him and include a piece of their family history in the day.

Natural Wedding Portraits and Sunset Photos

One of my favorite parts of wedding photography is capturing the moments when couples can relax and simply enjoy being together.

For Owen and Emily, one of those moments happened immediately after their ceremony when we stepped outside for portraits near the steeple.

“We were both so giddy and couldn’t stop smiling because we couldn’t believe we were finally married,” Emily recalled.

These are the kinds of moments I love documenting. While I’ll always offer guidance during portraits, I also want to give couples room to interact naturally so their photographs feel like them.

Later in the evening, we stepped away for sunset portraits. This gave Owen and Emily a few quiet minutes together away from the reception.

“It gave us a chance to slow down for a few minutes and just be together. We were laughing the whole time,” Emily shared.

Sunset portraits are something I often recommend including in a wedding photography timeline. Depending on the season and weather, even 10 to 15 minutes can provide beautiful light and give couples a chance to spend a little time together.

Wedding Planning Advice from Owen and Emily

After planning and celebrating their own wedding, Owen and Emily shared some great advice for other engaged couples.

“Don’t get too caught up in making everything perfect. The little things you spend months worrying about won’t be what you remember.”

Emily encouraged couples to focus on the people around them, enjoy the experience, and make time to be together throughout the day.

“Take a few moments throughout the day to just be together and soak it all in, it goes by so much faster than you think!!!”

I couldn’t agree more. Your wedding doesn’t have to follow a perfect schedule for your photographs to be meaningful. Some of the best images happen during the unplanned moments, when everyone is relaxed and enjoying the celebration.

Choosing a Eugene Wedding Photographer

Finding a wedding photographer whose style feels like you is an important part of planning your wedding. For Owen and Emily, having photographs that felt natural and genuine was a priority.

Emily originally found my work through Instagram and mutual connections. She shared what stood out to her when choosing a photographer:

“I loved how light and natural her photos were, and they never felt overly posed. I wanted our wedding photos to feel genuine, and I knew she would capture our day exactly how we wanted to remember it.”

That’s exactly what I hope to give every couple I work with. I want you to feel comfortable in front of the camera, enjoy your wedding day, and have photographs that capture both the important moments and everything in between.

As a Eugene wedding photographer, my approach is to provide direction when needed while leaving plenty of room for the natural interactions and candid moments that make your wedding personal.

Planning a Wedding in Eugene, Oregon? Frequently Asked Questions

1. What should couples consider when planning a wedding in Eugene, Oregon?

When planning a wedding in Eugene or the surrounding Willamette Valley, I recommend considering the season, weather, and available indoor and outdoor spaces at your venue.

Oregon weather can be unpredictable, especially during spring and fall, so having a comfortable backup option for your ceremony is important.

It’s also worth considering the available locations for wedding portraits, the amount of natural light, and how easily guests can move between the ceremony and reception.

2. What is the best time of year for wedding photos in Eugene?

Every season offers something different for wedding photography in Eugene.

Spring brings fresh greenery and seasonal flowers, although rain is always a possibility. Summer typically offers longer daylight hours and more opportunities for outdoor celebrations. Fall is popular for its changing colors and softer evening light.

No matter the season, I recommend planning your wedding photography timeline around the available natural light, especially if outdoor portraits are important to you.

3. How far in advance should we book a Eugene wedding photographer?

I generally recommend reaching out to your wedding photographer 9 to 12 months before your wedding, especially if you’re planning a Saturday celebration during the popular summer or early fall wedding season.

Booking early gives you more options and allows time to plan your engagement session, discuss your photography priorities, and create a wedding timeline that works well for your day.

If your wedding is coming up sooner, it’s still worth reaching out to check availability.
