I first met Jason and Madelyne at Jason’s sister’s wedding. It was an intimate wedding along the Coast. So I was thrilled when they contacted me to work with them on their September Wedding in Washington.
For their Engagement session, we put together a Pinterest board to get a vision of the photoshoot they wanted. Initially, we chatted about a coastal engagement session. But the more we chatted and talked through the inspirational photos, together we decided that that just wasn’t them.
“Since we knew we would be having a Pacific Northwest Engagement photoshoot and it’s winter, we played it safe by selecting an indoor location for our photos. We were going for a fancy cocktail vibe, so the bar at Dame had the perfect look. We love how the photos turned out! It was cool to play dress up and toast with some champagne! Overall it was a really great experience.”

Pro Tip- If you’re planning your engagement session during the winter time, opt for an indoor location. You can luck out with a nice winter day, but more than likely the weather won’t cooperate. Or you’ll end up cold and shivering for your session. I have a list full of amazing indoor options for your engagement shoot, based on the look and vibe you want.
Their Love Story
“Jason and I met at work of all places – he was an engineer, and I was an accountant. We actually met about a year before we started dating when Jason came up from Oregon to interview for the engineering position. He moved up to Washington in November of 2014, and after about six months of working together, we started occasionally getting lunches together. Lunches turned into some dates, and we officially started dating in July of 2015. We have been to many concerts, vacations, wineries, and sporting events over the years and can’t wait to start our next adventure together.”
The Proposal
“It was our 7-year anniversary (July 1st), and we were headed to Bend, OR for a 4th of July camping trip. We decided to break up the trip by staying with family in Portland and celebrating our anniversary at one of our favorite Portland restaurants. After a delicious dinner, we headed out to my aunt’s house and had dessert on the back patio while the sun set. Jason suggested that we take an anniversary photo ( which is so unlike him that I should have known something was up). The next thing I knew, he was down on a knee, and all I could do was laugh and say, “What are you doing!?” He said some very sweet things about spending our lives together and pulled out the most gorgeous diamond ring. It was a perfect moment. However, I was totally shocked and didn’t have my nails done! I’m still upset about it.”
