Engagement

Modern Studio Engagement Session | Portland, Oregon | Spencer + Olivia

Olivia and Spencer met during Olivia’ senior  year of college and Spencer had already graduated but was living in Eugene. There was a huge snow storm which seemed to have lasted weeks. Olivia and her roommate decided to put on layers of clothing and walk to Taylor’s bar on U of O campus. They were the only one’s in the bar until Spencer and his friend walked in. After Spencer and his friend ordered drinks they approached the table Olivia and her roommate were sitting at, introduced themselves and asked to sit down. Spencer sat right next to Olivia and the rest is history!

Fast forward to their engagement story! Olivia and Spencer were headed to Bend for a long weekend with two of their friends. Olivia had no idea that Spencer had a whole different plan in mind. On their way into Bend, Olivia’s friend suggested that we stop at Smith Rock. They stopped and decided to walk around and take in the views. Spencer and Olivia decided to take a picture together and that is when Spencer dropped to a knee and asked Olivia to marry her! Following the proposal, Spencer took Olivia to their Airbnb and all of her best friends were there to surprise her and celebrate for the weekend!

We had planned a mountain top engagement session at one of my favorite spots. But Oregon had other plans for us. So we pivoted our plans and moved indoors. I love that they were willing to step out of the box for their shoot. I think couples should feel comfortable to really make their engagement session all about them.

“Indoor engagement shoots are so underrated! Even though we had to pivot to an indoor shoot due to the weather I think I preferred it. I loved how we are the focal point of all of our photos and that there are no distractions in the background. I feel like it makes our photos super unique and I LOVE that!”

For anyone considering an engagement session Olivia and Spencer had this to say.

“Our shoot was AMAZING! We had never had professional photos done and felt nervous about being awkward in front of the camera. Ashley made us feel so comfortable right from the beginning. She was amazing at incorporating our vision into our photos while also giving the best suggestions. The shoot was so much fun! Knowing that we are already comfortable with Ashley allows us to not stress about our wedding photos. I also think it showed us what poses work best for us going into our wedding day. “

I am so excited about their wedding in Bend, Oregon next May.

my thoughts

let's connect

I believe in real moments and chasing sunsets. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments together. I believe in images that are itching to be printed, placed in beautiful frames, and hung on walls for years to come.

I believe in powerful love. Above all, I believe that love is a powerful force in the universe, and I want to preserve true love, beauty, light, and all the moments in life.
